The twenty-sixth amendment to the United States Constitution clearly states that the minimum voting age for US citizens is eighteen years of age. I have a few things to say about that. Being eighteen in this country gives you many rights that physical and mental maturity should dictate. I believe that voting should not be dictated by age. I feel that being eighteen does not make you a respectable and intelligent person. I think that should be decided on your actions alone, no matter what age you happen to be.
Therefore, I propose that voting for leaders of our country should be given to the people who have earned the right. Not by turning a certain age, but by knowing right from wrong. People who know what to consider when selecting leaders of their country with the current economy. The biggest problem with the United States at this time is money. Who would be the most logical leader for the US in its current state? Mitt Romney. Why? Because he's rich. He spent 25 years in the private sector working very hard. He earned every sent of his money from the ground up. Although, the past few states' primaries have selected Rick Santorum to represent. Why? Because the do not think Mitt Romney can lead the country being Mormon. Do you see how ignorant that thought is? Mitt Romney's religion has absolutely nothing to do with how he is going to lead our country. Nor should it. A presidential candidate should not be elected because of their religion.
Let's think back to 2008 when Obama won the election. A large chunk of the votes went to him because he was African American. That, for many people, made him look like a visionary. How else can you explain his election? There is no way his campaign had anything to do with it. The only thing I can remember from his campaign are that he said, "change" a lot and that he thought George W. Bush was an idiot. Those were the only things he really made note of in his campaign. Well you know what? He did bring change, but he never said the change was going to be for good.
In conclusion, I believe the voters of America should be allowed to vote if they meet qualifications with intelligence. An IQ test. Age means nothing in the way of intelligence. You can be 47 and still think Obama is a good president. Personally, I think that you should be slapped if you ever believed Obama would be a good president in the first place.
So I leave you with that. Hopefully, most of it made sense. If not, I may revise it later. Who knows.
