Throw your watch, then run on the stairs.

You throw your watch at your shadow and dash for the stairs. During your descent, you realize that the lamp has absorbed an apocalypse, and if it's going to emit all that light when you reach the end of the staircase, you probably don't want to be there. So, to avoid dying, you tap the lamp with your flashlight.
Many, many steps later, you stop to catch your breath. It occurs to you that there weren't this many steps on your way up. You glance back to find that you are still at the top of the staircase. Apparently, everything here is backwards. Trying to leave results in detaining you further. And your shadow is standing there, your watch at its feet.
Your throwing arm sucks.
Do what now?

Slowly walk towards the shadow, and pick up the watch. Then head back down for the stairs.

You retrieve the watch and quickly begin your descent. Or not. You soon have to catch your breath, and turn to find that you are just as far down the stairs as you were ten minutes ago. Frustrated, you scowl at your shadow, which, at this point, seems to be mocking you.
On the other hand, you suspect that the shadow has less to do with your inability to leave than you want to think. Everything here at the top of the stair is backwards, after all.
What now?

Try walking backwards down the stairs.

You try walking down the stairs backwards. Strangely, you find that you are actually moving closer to the center of the rubble-filled street. Again, your effort to leave has resulted in your stay.
Now, you are quite certain that your shadow is mocking you.

Throw the lamp and flashlight at the Shadow. Then attempt to leave again.

You throw everything but the watch at the shadow and attempt to leave, with the same effect. You are a little more inside the backwards world than you were before, and your belongings lay at the shadow's feet.

Throw the watch too and try again.

Retrieve the flashlight and the lamp. Tap the lamp with the flashlight, and throw the lamp down the stairs.

You retrieve your flashlight and lamp. Tapping the lamp with the flashlight, you throw the former down the stairs. Or, at least, you try to. Due to the backward nature of this place, throwing the lamp down the stairs results in the lamp flying back, further into the rubble.

Go sit by the shadow.

You throw your hands up in despair and attempt to move into the room to sit next to your condescending shadow. But something pulls you back. You try again, but the unseen force pulls you harder. Your foot slips, and you find yourself being dragged down the stairs.
Halfway down, you come to a halt. It is pitch black. You really need your tools.
Go back and get them?
